Biografia
Romancista norte-americano, Stephen King nasceu em 1947 em Portland, no Maine. Deu início aos seus estudos secundários na Lisbon Falls High School, onde começou a escrever contos, ao mesmo tempo que fazia parte de um grupo amador de rock. No ano de 1960, Stephen King submeteu o seu primeiro manuscrito para publicação, o qual seria rejeitado. Entretanto, editava o jornal do liceu, The Drum, e escrevia para o jornal local, o Lisbon Weekly Enterprise. Publicou o seu primeiro conto, In a Half-World of Terror, num fanzine de terror. Em 1970, licenciou-se pela Universidade do Maine e, de 1971 a 1974, Stephen King deu aulas numa escola secundária, até ter publicado o seu primeiro romance, Carrie (1974), a história de uma rapariga com poderes telecinéticos. Atirou as primeiras páginas do trabalho ao lixo, mas foram resgatadas pela esposa, que o encorajou a continuar. A obra não teve senão um sucesso modesto, mas, depois da sua adaptação ao cinema e com a publicação do romance A Hora do Vampiro (1976), Stephen King conseguiu afirmar-se como um importante escritor.
