Biografia
William Tulloch Paterson nasceu em Glasgow em 3 de junho de 1945. Paterson foi criado em Dennistoun por seu pai, encanador, e sua mãe, cabeleireira. Ele afirma que seu interesse em atuar começou com uma viagem escolar ao Citizens Theatre em Gorbals em 1961. No entanto, depois da escola, ele escolheu inicialmente seguir uma carreira baseada no interesse pela arquitetura e passou três anos como aprendiz de agrimensor antes de decidir frequentar a Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
